Stephen (“Dr. K”) holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Communication Studies from West Virginia University and a B.A. in Communication and Rhetoric from the University of Pittsburgh.
As a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Tampa, he has built a career studying how people build trust and connection through communication, with a particular focus on relational strategies: the small, deliberate choices that help instructors and leaders build genuine rapport rather than simply transmit information. That same thinking underpins his coaching work today.
Over a decade of research, teaching, and service, Stephen’s work has been recognized with honors including the Outstanding Faculty Achievement in Teaching Award and the Outstanding Scholarship and Creative Work Award, the Judee K. Burgoon Research Award, and induction into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
